Research Fellow

Description

Wilmar International, a major food production company, and the ECE Department of NUS are jointly building new research programs that investigate biosensor chips for food technology. The aim is to develop wireless biosensing system to monitor in-package food quality and composition.

Successful applicants will become full-time employee of Wilmar International and he/she is expected to work in NUS as well as Wilmar laboratories. The position involves the investigation of wirelessly-coupled electro-impedance sensors and their integration into a range of food packages. The work involves collaboration with biochemists, food scientists, and data scientists to develop the chemical functionalization, analysis, and integration of the system.

We look for someone who is motivated to design, fabricate, and characterize sensor at both the material and electronic sensor level, to work in a multidisciplinary team. A range of research experiences are welcomed. These includes microelectronic fabrication, wireless sensor electrical testing and characterization. Familiarity or background with biochemistry, electro-impedance, voltammetry sensing, are pluses.

Responsibilities may include: –

  • Fabrication and miniaturization of sensor in a microelectronic clean room, and 3D/2D printing technologies.
  • Electrical set up and testing for wireless sensor system.
  • Work in a bio-safe/food-safe environment to implement and test the sensor technologies.
  • Interface with electrical engineers, data scientist, food technologist to implement a complete system.
  • Conduct independent research to analyse and interpret, electrical and chemical data, followed by initiation of new experiments and inventions base on the findings.
  • Organize experiment plans and results for communication to team mates and Wilmar/NUS supervisors.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Bio/Bio-medical/Chemical Engineering, or related fields from a reputable University/Institute.
  • Fluent in English with good communication skills relevant to writing and presenting.
  • Open to fixed-term contract.

Candidates are subjected to selection processes by Wilmar International and NUS, successful candidates will be offered an employment contract with Wilmar International and he/she will be expected to work at NUS as well as Wilmar International laboratories.
